Tension wire is an important part of chain link fencing. It secures the bottom and top of your chain link fence to ensure the chain links remain tight to the posts and rails.

What is tension wire made of?

Most often the wire is manufactured with a Class 3 . 80 oz coating of zinc so this wire strand will last just as long as the chain link fence. Wire is manufactured in soft tensile for workability but with enough strength to be stretched for the purpose.

How far apart are post on a chain link fence?

Chain link fence posts are typically spaced a maximum of ten feet apart. For aesthetic reasons, space posts evenly, but do NOT exceed ten feet between posts. If you plan on installing privacy slats or another type of material that will increase wind load, consider using 8′ or 6′ post spacing.

How do you stretch the tension wire on a fence?

Pull a few feet off the roll and walk down to the next post with the roll of wire. Set the roll on the ground. Fold the loose end of wire on top of the long length of wire and tighten by twisting it around the long part of wire at least six times with pliers.
