Growing tips
Grow celosia in full sun – at least 6 to 8 hours a day. Well-drained, nutrient-rich soil keeps plants growing strong. Use a liquid plant food every couple of weeks, especially if it’s been rainy or really hot: Lots of rain can wash away nutrients and temperatures above 95 degrees F slow growth.
How do you make a perennial celosia?
Celosia is considered a tender perennial in zones 9 and 10, or a hardy annual otherwise. In warmer climate areas, you can get it to grow back year after year. In most climates, though, they will need to be replanted each year. Yet, the plant is also known for its unpredictable behavior.
Will celosia survive winter in the UK?
The celosia is not a good annual to try and overwinter. Besides needing a lot of full direct sunlight it needs warm temperatures to grow and bloom well. A grow light may help somewhat but I don’t believe it is worth the time and energy to save them. I live in a warm climate with very mild winters.
How long do celosia plants last?
The unusual looking annual flowers can bloom for up to ten weeks, with Celosia flower heads of red, purple, orange, gold, pink or sometimes bi-colored flower colors.
Will celosia reseed itself?
Celosia is easily dried by hanging small bundles of flower stems upside down in a cool, dry room with good ventilation. The seeds will fall out as they dry. These plants will self-seed readily and although the seedlings are easy to remove, it can become a weed as they set seed prolifically.

Can celosia be an indoor plant?
How to grow celosia. Celosia seeds can be sown indoors in a warm environment in early spring, ideally in a propagator at a temperature of between 20-25ºC (68-77ºF). The seeds should germinate in 1-2 weeks, and the seedlings can either be planted outside in summer or grown as indoor plants.
How do you keep celosia alive?
Good Light and Better Drainage
Give them plenty of sunlight and a warm location, and they’ll thank you with prolific blooms. But careful attention to their soil and watering requirements is potentially even more important than that sunlight. Celosia will not tolerate wet feet.
How cold can celosia tolerate?
Temperatures below 60 degrees F during the day and 50 degrees F at night will retard growth. Select a location in full sun with good rich, moist, well-drained organic soil.
Can you transplant celosia?
Sow indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost, in peat or coir pots – Celosia does not like its roots disturbed by transplanting. Transplant at least two weeks after last frost, once nighttime temperatures are consistently above 10°C (50°F). Or direct sow outdoors after last frost. Seeds will germinate in 6-14 days.
